The Word for Wednesday: John 7:14-18

Welcome to The Word for Wednesday meme! Each week, you're invited to post a scripture that has touched your heart, whether it's an old favorite, new light from the Holy Spirit, or something you're pondering.

If you'd like to participate and share what God has written on your heart, use Mr. Linky below to let us all know you've posted. And your comments would be most welcome.

Discerning God's Truth

The "church" in America today is as diverse as America itself: calvinist, evangelical, emergent, seeker-sensitive, baptist, charismatic, liberal, conservative. Everybody has a slant that they promote as "the truth," trying to get more people into their church than the church down the road.

After examining many of these doctrines, I have rejected them all. While most contain some truth, most contain error, as well, and I will not align myself with anything beyond God's Word.

How did I arrive at this position? How can we tell the truth from the self-promoting lies? Sometime ago, the Lord wrote the following on my heart:
But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and began to teach. The Jews then were astonished, saying, "How has this man become learned, having never been educated?" So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him." (John 7:14-18)
God reveals the truth to Christians who are willing to do God's will, regardless of the cost. Just as Jesus told us not to give what is holy to dogs or cast our pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6) so, too, God will not reveal truth to people who will ignore it or malign it.

The way to God's truth is a heart committed to living it.

Legalism - it is our church's way or the highway to hell. It really irks me to hear this from a church.

That is why I love the song by Clay Crosse, "Saving the World."

I don't know the song, Lisa, but legalism is definitely one of satan's more effective tactics. On the other hand, grace without a commitment on our part to do God's will is just as bad.

Thanks for stopping. I'm off to read your post!
