The Word for Wednesday: On Judgment Day

Welcome to The Word for Wednesday meme! Each week, you're invited to post a scripture that has touched your heart, whether it's an old favorite, new light from the Holy Spirit, or something you're pondering.

If you'd like to participate and share what God has written on your heart, use Mr. Linky below to let us all know you've posted. And your comments would be most welcome.

Therefore we also have as our ambition,
whether at home or absent,

to be pleasing to Him.

For we must all appear

before the judgment seat of Christ

(2 Corinthians 5:9-10)

The following list contains paraphrases of things I've heard over the years from other Christians. On rare occasions they were spoken directly and clearly. Most often they were stated obliquely and often behind someone's back.

If I have any faith at all, however, I have faith that they are things I will not hear on Judgment Day from my Lord and Savior, when I cast my crowns at His feet.
  • You shouldn't have disagreed with other Christians so much. You were way too particular about the truth.
  • You'd have gotten farther ahead if you'd spent more time studying church doctrines and other Christian books, instead of the Bible.
  • You would have had more friends if you hadn't taken it all so seriously.
  • You should have submitted to the "official" church authorities, instead of clinging to Me as your Head.
  • Paul was just a guy. You put too much weight in what he wrote.
  • You shouldn't have spent so much time separating truth and error.
  • If you'd been more calvinist, arminian, lutheran, evangelical, baptist, ecumenical, inclusive, relevant, emerging, reforming, seeker-sensitive, green or purpose-driven, you'd have fit in better.
  • You shouldn't have taken My words so literally. I didn't really mean them.
  • You should have spent more time trying to please people and less trying to please Me.

I'll have to try those! All of 'em, at once! I'll be busy, but how well I'll fit in!

Thanks for that post. It may be inappropriate to smile about the idea of eternal judgement, but I got a smile out of it nonetheless.

Glad you, especially, smiled.

The people who claim those titles won't be nearly as amused.

Hoh boy! Great post! I have found that I have become more "tempered" as I get older, but I doubt my scrappy irasibility and stubborn steadfastness for God's word isn't going to change. lol

I'd be worried about you if they did, Rebecca. :)

Great post. Sorry I didn't participate this week .. the last few days have kept me on my feet ... again, *sigh*

And yeah, I managed to get a smile out of this one, though it's a serious subject. I wonder how often God uses sarcasm ...

It's okay, Herky. Maybe next week.

Paul was definitely prone to sarcasm, and if I think back to some of what God said to Job, I think it could be classified as sarcasm. I'd never thought about that before. Thanks for mentioning it.
